El objetivo es desarrollar una tecnolog\u00eda que d\u00e9 como resultado una reducci\u00f3n de gases de efecto invernadero (GHG por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s: Greenhouse Gas Protocol) basada en la proyecto WaterProof tiene como objetivo desarrollar un proceso electroqu\u00edmico que convierta en \u00e1cido f\u00f3rmico las emisiones de CO\u2082 capturadas de la incineraci\u00f3n de residuos y las instalaciones de tratamiento de aguas residuales. Este \u00e1cido f\u00f3rmico se utilizar\u00e1 en valiosos productos verdes para el consumidor, como detergentes de limpieza y el te\u00f1ido de prendas de cuero de pescado. Los subproductos adicionales del proceso electroqu\u00edmico son per\u00f3xidos que pueden aplicarse para eliminar sustancias farmac\u00e9uticas y pesticidas de las aguas residuales. Adem\u00e1s, el \u00e1cido f\u00f3rmico se utiliza para la generaci\u00f3n de Solventes Eut\u00e9cticos Profundos \u00c1cidos (ADES por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s), que se pueden aplicar para recuperar metales preciosos de lodos de aguas residuales y cenizas de incineraci\u00f3n. Dado que el proceso electroqu\u00edmico utiliza energ\u00eda renovable, contribuye a un ciclo de agua limpio con cero emisiones.<br>WaterProof permite cerrar el ciclo de carbono de desechos s\u00f3lidos y aguas residuales, y pasar de fuentes de carbono f\u00f3sil a fuentes renovables.
